I provide individual treatment for children, adolescents and adults.
Children ( 6-12)
Treatment with children involves a different format than the more traditional approach typically associated with adults. Due to their developmental stage, treatment is highly interactive and can include learning skills through the use of drawings, games and worksheets. Treatment with children always involves a parent component. Depending on your child’s needs, this may include meeting during your child’s session or a separate session. The purpose of parent sessions is for the parent to assist their child in implementing skills learned in session at home.
Adolescents (13-19)
Adolescents are faced with many challenges that we as adults, may not have faced at their age. Forming their independent identity is the focus of this developmental stage and therefore, confidentiality is very important when working with this age group. As such, treatment may involve primarily working with the teen. Alternatively, there may be a parent component however, this depends on a discussion to find a format that feels comfortable to all involved.
adults
Evidence based treatment for adults involves forming a trusting and validating relationship while at the same time learning how to manage one’s mood. Managing emotions involves learning change and acceptance based skills using cognitive-behavioral and/or mindfulness based skills.
